چکیده :

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), a significant achievement in the field of biotechnology, have played a crucial role in improving agricultural performance and enhancing food quality. This technology has created characteristics such as resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses and improved crop nutritional value through targeted genetic modification. However, the increasing development of GMOs has raised growing concerns about environmental impacts. These concerns include the escape of modified genes into wild populations, the creation of new invasive species, the reduction of genetic diversity, and changes in ecological patterns. Scientific evidence shows that the unintended effects of this technology may threaten the sustainability of ecosystems and require urgent and responsible risk assessments, long-term monitoring, and preventive policies. Analysis of available data shows that the lack of appropriate environmental management can have irreparable consequences. Therefore, responsible development of GM crops requires designing rigorous regulatory frameworks, promoting transparency in risk assessment processes, and enhancing scientific capacity to predict ecological consequences. Focusing on environmental aspects, this article examines the opportunities and threats of GM technology and emphasizes the need to adopt strategies to protect biodiversity and sustain ecosystems.
